Gaming: A Tool for Preparedness Strategy and Training

When:  Wed, Sep 9, 2026 from 03:30 PM to 04:30 PM (ET)

Strong coordination is essential during emergencies, but many cross-sector partnerships are first tested during a real incident. The Center for Advanced Preparedness and Threat Response Simulation (CAPTRS) developed the Command, Control, Communication, and Coordination (C3C) Game to help organizations strengthen communication, collaboration, and decision-making before a crisis occurs. In this upcoming ASTHO webinar, CAPTRS will demonstrate the game, discuss the value of serious games in preparedness, and share lessons learned from its use in public health settings. The game has been used by state and local public health offices, and the South Dakota Department of Health will share outcomes of their jurisdictional experience with the game.

Speakers:

  • Amy Ballew, Senior Vice President, Product, Center for Advanced Preparedness and Threat Response Simulation
  • Whitney Lutkemeier, Director of Public Health Preparedness, Administrator – Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, South Dakota Department of Health
