When:  Jun 30, 2026 from 02:00 PM to 03:00 PM (ET)

Join ASTHO and the Public Health Foundation for their next webinar focused on academic health department (AHD) partnerships. In this session, participants will gain a foundational understanding of AHD partnerships and hear how North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS), in partnership with North Dakota State University (NDSU), created a student assistantship program. This initiative offers Master of Public Health students hands-on experience, builds the leadership skills of early career staff, and strengthens overall public health capacity. Participants will also explore how the program has evolved, lessons learned along the way, and how it serves as a blueprint for developing the next generation of public health professionals.

Learning objectives:

1. Describe how the student assistantship program was established.

2. Identify the benefits the program provides to HHS, NDSU, and participating students.

3. Summarize major changes and improvements implemented within the program since its launch.

  • Pamela Jo Johnson, MPH, PhD, FACE, North Dakota State University
  • Mayela Arana, MPH, CPH, CHES, Public Health Foundation
