Ethical Analysis for Infectious Disease Wastewater Surveillance Training Workshop: New Hampshire

Join the New Hampshire Division of Public Health and ASTHO for a two-day in-person workshop focused on ethical analysis in wastewater surveillance. State health departments and their partners will convene to identify and address ethical considerations for infectious disease wastewater surveillance.

Wastewater surveillance, which measures pathogen levels in wastewater, is vital to evaluating community-level health trends and can be used to complement traditional health data and interventions. While this tool is critical for monitoring community health, it also requires ethical considerations including privacy protections, stigma prevention, and the responsible use of data.

Workshop participants will hear presentations from subject matter experts, analyze case studies, and discuss issues relevant to their state. Dr. Kata Chillag, chair of public health and Hamilton McKay Professor in biosciences and human health at Davidson College will engage with attendees in tabletop and large-group discussions facilitated by Erin Laird, ASTHO’s director of emerging infections.
